This is going to be my second attempt to bring my blog out of the grave I dug for it… for some reason I seem to be not able to keep it alive… I blame it on 1) having World of Warcraft (PC Game) take a big chunk of my computer time, 2) Starting to microblog on twitter and Facebook, and 3) Just overall laziness.

Nothing to hide, nothing to fear?

Many times I heard the phrase “If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear” ; and I can’t tell you enough how irritated I feel every time I hear it. This sentence pops out every time there is a question about privacy; for example: installation of surveillance cameras, monitoring phone calls, monitoring SMS messages, monitoring emails, revealing bloggers real names and identity, collecting personal information, etc etc.

Why should I fear if I have nothing to hide? well I do have things to hide; everyone have things to hide. If, and only IF, I looked at a porn in the internet, should everyone know I did? If I have a serious health issue that doesn’t prevent me from perfectly performing my job, must everyone know about it? In fact, if even I’ve committed a serious crime, been convicted, rehabilitated and paid my debt to society, why should I be obliged to reveal that history to my neighbors if I pose no threat to them? If I go somewhere which the society believes it is “inappropriate” to go to, should that be published on a newspaper? I’ve done none of these things, and am in no particular rush to, but I demand the right to privacy if those situations arise.

“Nothing to hide, nothing to fear” is a myth, a fallacy, a trojan horse wheeled out by those who can’t justify their surveillance schemes, databases and privacy invasions. It is an argument that insults intelligent individuals.

Isn’t it so amazing how we Kuwaitis only use advances in communication technology to serve as a way to meet opposite sex?

What’s everyone so happy about?

Everyone is happy… greeting each other… dressed up with the finest new clothes… smelling the best…. the best food is served… people you haven’t seen in a long time come in to give you their greetings… it’s Eid.

This scene repeats itself year after year…. and year after year on that particular day (Eid), the same thought always comes to me: What’s everyone so happy about?

Sorry guys… I forgot to post that I’m taking a summer vacation out
of Kuwait. I finally decided that I can’t stand the dust anymore. Not
only does it day in and day out violates my respiratory system, but I’m
starting to feel that it is actually slowly penetrating my soul. The
heat is just the cream on the cake.

Look through the window

Do you rather live in a perfect dream world where everyone is nice to everyone and no one ever have bad intentions towards anyone? or do you rather live in the cruel, but real, world where evil do exist among good?

I find it kind of interesting how when sometimes I tell people about the bad intention behind an action directed to them from someone else, they immediately hit me with the "Why do you have to think bad of people?"… only after sometime to come to me and tell me I was right and that they should have listened to me in the beginning. Life has taught me that the world is a not perfect; but whenever I try to tell that to someone else, I get accusation of being too negative.

I reached a point where whenever I’m faced with a situation like that, I tell the person…. "hey, I’m only opening the window for you to see the world as it truly is….. now it’s up to you to choose to see through the window, or choose close the window and stay in your dream world… the choice is yours… just dont blame me later for not doing so"
